ISLAMABAD - An Activist of Pakistan Peoples Party AJK chapter was gunned down on Sunday here in Sector G-6 where polling was being held for the seat of Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) of constituency No 40, valley 5, Azad jammu & Kashmir. The PPPP worker died on the spot when a man allegedly belonging to Muslim Conference (MC) opened fire at him. Resultantly, PPP activist died on the spot. The deceased identified as Capt (Retd) Tariq belonged to Khuiratta, tehsil and district Kotli, Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. The fully charged workers of PPP Pakistan Occupied Kashmir chanted slogans against the MC and demanded immediate arrest of the killer. The corpse was shifted to PIMS for autopsy. It is relevant to note here that a large number of police officials were deployed on polling station but despite of all this, assailant easily managed to flee the site after committing the crime. The activists of PPP-AJK termed it as a failure of administration. Soon after the incident, the polling was suspended. As many as 12 candidates were contesting for the said slot, however, the real contest was between PPP candidate Abdul Salam Butt and MC candidate Hafiz Ahmed Raza Qadri. Eyewitness said that war of word was being fought between the both parties and people belonging to MC and PPP-AJK were openly showing sophisticated weapons. Speaking on the occasion, Babar Minhas, President PPP Islamabad, said that it was failure of administration, as the police had been informed about the possibility of such a happening by MC workers. The deceased was a close relative of PPP-AJK senior leader Ch Yaseen. Interior Minister Rehman Malik has suspended SHO Aabpara and duty Magistrate. An FIR has also been registered against a senior Minister of Muslim Conference Raja Yasin. and was admin officer in Jammu Kashmir Housing Society. The FIR of the incident was not registered till filing of this report.
