LAHORE Pakistans no.1 tennis player in international circuit Aisamul Haq Qureshi, won the ATP World Tour doubles tournament at the South African ATP Championship in Johannesburg. Pairing with Rohan Bopanna of India, Aisam overcame stiff opposition from the Slovakia and the Czech Republic.pair of Karol Beck and Harol Levy 2-6, 6-3 and 10-5 in the super tie breaker. This was Aisams third final at this level of tournament, having lost out on his two earlier attempts when partnering with Bopanna as well. Levy and Beck were appearing in their first final as a pair. The first set was a show of nerves by the Asian duo, who had reached the final after three difficult encounters already. In contrast, Beck and Levy had not faced a single seeded pair on their way to the final. It was the opponents who came flying out of the traps, rushing to two breaks of serve in the opening exchanges. They held on to this lead to comfortably take the first set 6-2. Not only did the Asians stymie their opponents ability to attack in the next set, they redrew the battle lines with their own display of aggressive shot making. At 3-2 in the second set, Aisam and Bopanna got their break through. At 2-2, with the momentum slowly shifting towards the Asians, the perpetual drizzle gained weight and the match was suspended due to rain. Returning from the break, Aisam and Bopanna held serve confidently. The Asians romped to another comfortable break of serve, and all of a sudden were up 5-2. Both teams held their serves and thus Aisam and Bopanna forced the match into a super tie-breaker. The European pair were seeing the match slip out of what had appeared a firm grasp at the end of the first set. Despite their domination of the second set, Aisam and Bopanna were caught out at the beginning of the super tie breaker, and lost their own service to go down 0-2. They recovered swiftly to win the next five points on the trot and go up 5-2. Beck and Levy were able to secure points on their own serve, and Aisam and Bopanna maintained their superiority when serving, so the score read 7-4. Then, at 7-5, Aisam and Bopanna secured another mini break to go up 8-5, with a chance to serve out the match. This they did emphatically, to win the super tie breaker 10-5. Aisam thus wins his first ATP World Tour 250 level tournament, and Bopanna his second.
