A milestone needs to be achieved in the struggle to root out extremism from Pakistan so that everybody can tell between the right and wrong. It would be best done by initially curbing the extremism surrounding us. Taliban are not the only one involved in terrorizing the society; other elements within us also do so, often with shocking effect. This morning I woke up to realize that a father of five children was beaten and tortured so severely by the police that he had to be to be hospitalized. His injuries were so critical that he died after three traumatic days. This man, the sole breadwinner of a family, was killed by police because he allegedly was in possession of some hashish. A vast majority of our citizens believe that this kind of terrorism should not be over looked by the authorities. Those involved must have a trial. -AMNA ZAMAN, Lahore, February 5.
