LAHORE Diamond Paints/Allied Bank defeated a spirited Pakistan Air Force in the final of the Hanif Rajput Cup Polo Tournament at the Lahore Polo Club here on Sunday. Going into the match with one-and-a-half goal handicap, PAF were clear underdogs and managed to put favourites Diamond Paints/Allied Bank under considerable pressure. Raja Samiullah, who has been in splendid form this season, scored five goals for the winning side. Other prominent scorers were Gastron Dervient with three goals and Kashif Jamal with two goals. Diamond Paints/Allied Bank led the first chukker by 3-0 as Sami hit one and Kashif added two goals in the opening chukker. PAF made a comeback in the second chukker with two goals as Atif Tiwana and Shah Qublai Alam brought their team back into the fray. The third chukker was fiercely contested as six goals were scored in it - four by Diamond Paints/Allied Bank and two by PAF. As many as four goals were scored in the fourth chukker two goals apiece by each team. Umar Sadik and Hissam Ali Hyder officiated the match. Earlier, Bank Alfalah Alfalah beat Riva Tiles 7-6 in the subsidiary final. Later chief guest Governor Punjab Salman Taseer gave away prizes to the winning team.
