LAHORE The passing-out ceremony of 532 fire rescuers for 24 districts of Punjab was held at Emergency Services Academy, Shama Chowk, Ferozepur Road on Monday. Despite of heavy rain, the ceremony started in time as the rescuers are always ready to help in any emergency regardless of day, night, rain, storm, accident, fire and disaster. These fire rescuers were recruited & trained on the special instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for the establishment of modern fire service in remaining 24 districts of Punjab. These districts include Attock, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Chakwal, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jehlum, Jhang, Kasur, Khanewal, Khushab, Layyah, Lodharan, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Nankana Sahib, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Rajanpur, Sheikhupura, Toba Tek Singh and Vehari. Punjab Home Secretary Shahid Khan was the chief guest on the occasion. Other distinguished guest of honour was the Director General National Institute of Management Naeem Aslam. Shahid expressed his pleasure about the training and professionalism of Rescue 1122 by saying the rescuers were performing excellent job with noble cause. Naeem Aslam said that Rescue 1122 was the only Service providing a sense of safety to the citizens because of its international standards. I have travelled the whole world and seen the emergency services of the world and I feel that Rescue 1122 can be compared even with the best services in the world, he added. The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer during his welcome address informed that the Service has rescued over 800,000 emergency victims and saved the expected loss of over Rs 40 billion in fire incidents.
