LAHORE US Consul General Carmela Conroy on Monday contacted the Punjab government and requested the authorities that Raymond Davis, the killer of two innocent Pakistanis, should not be subjected to intensive interrogation. Sources also said that she discussed the security and health related issued of the killer with the government officials and demanded counsel access for Raymond Davis. The Punjab government officials told the US Consul General that the investigations would be carried out purely on merit. Meanwhile, security in and around Central Jail Kot Lakhpat has been intensified in view of the possible shifting of US national Raymond Davis involved in double murder case after the expiry of his remand. Official sources said here on Monday that the top provincial hierarchy including Home Secretary Shahid Khan, Punjab Police Chief Javed Iqbal, Secretary Prosecution Rana Maqbool Ahmad, Punjab Prisons Chief Kokab Nadeem Warraich and Capital City Police Officer Haji Muhammad Aslam Tareen led by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah paid a surprise visit to Kot Lakhpat Jail on Monday and reviewed the security arrangements to ensure safety of Raymond during his likely confinement in jail. It may be mentioned here that all foreigners are kept in Kot Lakhpat Jail in special barracks situated in an independent separate block and especially guarded round-the-clock by a strong contingent of warders.
