LAHORE - Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal has not yet taken any decision on the application of Dr Tahir Ali Javed, the head of the PML-Qs Forward Bloc, who wanted a distinct status for his members in the Punjab Assembly on the plea that they were in majority. In their application submitted before the Speaker last week bearing signatures of 47 members, the forward bloc members had requested for allocation of separate seats in the assembly besides nomination of Dr. Tahir Ali Javed as their parliamentary leader. The Speaker had forwarded the application to the Advocate General Punjab for legal opinion, which is still awaited. When contacted to know the current status of the forward bloc, Secretary Assembly Maqsood Malik said that no decision had been taken on the said application so far. He said assembly secretariat had not yet received the legal opinion from the Advocate General in this regard. It is to be noted that following this move by the PML-N to 'legitimize the 'birth of forward bloc in the assembly, the PPPs parliamentary party led by Senior Punjab Minister Raja Riaz presented 19-point charter of demands to the Punjab government to ensure good governance in the province. As the PML-N did not take their reservations seriously, Raja Riaz announced on Sunday to stage a sit-in in front of Punjab Assembly for acceptance of their demands. As this would have caused much embarrassment to the PML-N, Punjab Law Minister rushed to Governors House on Monday morning to seek his intervention into the matter. The governor reportedly assured him that he will ask the PPP ministers to put off their sit-in. The ministers, however, were indecisive till late in the night whether to go ahead with their planned move or not.
