ANP leader escapes bomb attack

KARACHI - A local leader of the Awami National Party escaped an attack as bomb disposal squad defused a bomb outside his house here on Friday.
ANP local leader Hayat Buneri is the cousin of former Baldia Town Nazim Aurangzaib Buneri and Razzak Buneri. Hayat’s house is also situated next to Razzak’s Buneri’s house in Madina Colony area of Baldia Town.
The bomb was planted at Hayat’s battery service shop set up in the premises of his house. “I was preparing for Fajr prayers when I noticed the arrival of a motorcycle in my street. I saw two men riding a motorcycle planted some explosive material and tried to flee. I immediately took my licensed weapon and opened fire at them. They remained unhurt as they also fired back and managed to escape after planting the bomb. The culprits left their motorcycle and escaped on a rickshaw passing from there,” he explained.
Upon hearing the gunshots, Hayat and other neighbours also came out of their homes and immediately informed the police and the bomb disposal squad.
The residents living in the nearby houses vacated their houses before the arrival of law enforcers.
The security forces also cordoned off the entire street. The BDS experts later reached the site and defused the bomb. Experts said it was an improvised explosive device (IED) which weighed around two kilogrammes without ball bearings.
