KHANEWAL - A high profile alleged terrorist was killed and his two accomplices injured in a shootout with a joint team comprising police and intelligence agencies personnel here on Kacha Khu-Vehari Road in village 84/15-L in the remit of Vijhianwala Police, some 45-km away from here on Friday. Two personnel of the law enforcement agencies were also injured in the incident.

According to details, on a tip-off about the movement of a high profile terrorist, the personnel of law enforcement agencies including intelligence agencies set up a ‘secret’ picket on Kacha Khu-Vehari Road at village 84/15-L in the limits of Vijhianwala Police. In the meantime, a suspected white Toyota corolla car (as tipped off), having damaged front number plate reached the picket. At which the LEAs personnel attempted to stop it but the ‘strangers’ in the car did not stop and instead lobbed a hand grenade on them. However, the desperate LEAs personnel did not let them flee and opened retaliatory fire, killing the terrorist who ran to crop fields on spot while his two accomplices sustained gunshot wounds and were captured successfully. Two LEAs personnel were also injured in the crossfire. All the injured were later shifted to Vehari DHQ Hospital from where after first-aid, the LEAs shifted the inured including its own personnel and the dead terrorist’s body to an undisclosed location.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer when contacted, confirmed the killing a high profile terrorist. “Thanks God the terrorists failed to carry out any subversive activity due to prior intelligence and effective planning by the LEAs,” he informed. He said that the joint operation was carried out secretly with precise intelligence which yielded. The presence of the DCO, DPO, Army and other agencies personnel was also reported on incident site since long. It is to be noted that the area falls in the jurisdiction of Khanewal district, lying on the border with neighbouring district Vehari.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Four police officials including an SHO were martyred while an outlaw was killed in a shootout here on Friday. According to details, acting on a tip-off regarding presence of outlaws, the police conducted a raid in Yaroo Khosa area. However, as the sight of the police personnel, the outlaws started indiscriminate firing on them. The criminals showed strong resistance which led to a shootout which continued for quit sometime.

Resultantly, Kot Mubaraka Police SHO Muhammad Shafiq and three other cops embraced martyred while a criminal wanted by police in various cases was also killed.

Heavy firing and killing of four policemen spread tension and panic among the dwellers of the area. The people were restricted to homes due uncertain law and order situation.

The bodies of policemen and criminal were taken to hospital for medico-legal formalities.
