RAWALPINDI  - A woman was shot dead while a shopkeeper was injured by armed robbers upon showing resistance in two different robbery bids, informed sources here on Friday. Police registered cases and started investigation.

In the first incident, three robbers barged into the house of Haq Nawaz Abbasi located at Kakri on Thursday night and made the entire family members hostage at gunpoint. The family members tried to resist the dacoits on which the intruders started indiscriminate firing injuring Haq Nawaz and his wife Aziza Jan critically.

Upon hearing the noise of gunshots, the area people gathered and managed to catch a robber, who was later identified as Zakeer. The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Murree, where Aziza Jan succumbed to injuries, sources added.

A police official of PS Murree, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said that three robbers entered the house of Haq Nawaz to loot them but the family awaked and started scuffling with robbers. During the fight, the family members recognized the robbers. On this the two robbers managed to escape while the third one was caught by family members. Police earlier filed a case under section 397 and 13/20/65 PPC and now inserted section 302 in the FIR. The injured dacoit was in police custody, he added.

On the other hand, the area residents and relatives of deceased staged a protested demo outside press club against police for their failure to control increasing incidents of robberies in Murree. The protestors including Gultaj Abbasi, Muhammad Saeed, Gull Ayaz and Sufi Babar said that a 15 member gang of robbers have been on looting spree in the area but police were hesitating to lay hand on them. They appealed City Police Officer to take notice of the worried situation here.

In the second incident, unknown dacoits shot and injured a chemist during a robbery bid on Chakri Road, the precinct of PS Chakri.

According to sources, robbers loaded with guns entered in a medical store and demanded cash and mobile phones from the shopkeeper. On resistance, the robbers started firing on the owner who sustained bullet injuries. The robbers run away while the injured shifted to DHQ where he identified as Shohaib. Police were investigating the matter, a police official told.

Search ops

Police carried out a search operation in the areas of police stations Race Course and Westridge.

During the operation, which was supervised by SSP (Operations) Mian Maqbool, a total of 88 houses were frisked while data of 400 people have also been collected, informed CPO Office official on Friday.

According to him, police have been on high alert to curb growing incidents of terrorism and laid down certain rules for stay of guests in hotels and tenants in rented houses following the instruction of acting Regional Police Officer (RPO)/City Police Officer (CPO) Akhter Umar Hayyat Lalayka.
