KARACHI : Militants attacked a Rangers check-post with a low intensity bomb near Gujjar Nullah, Nazimabad here on Sunday.

The bomb exploded with a loud bang here in the evening. The personnel of the paramilitary force remained unhurt in the incident. The bomb carrying 500 grams of explosive partially damaged the check-post.

Following the incident, extra contingent of law enforcers including Rangers and police reached the site and cordoned off the locality to collect evidences. Experts from the bomb disposal squad were also called to the blast site to ascertain the nature of explosives used by the militants.

Police officials said it would premature to say either the bomb was planted or the motorcyclists threw the bomb as the investigation was in preliminary stage. DIG Central Feroz Shah said the investigations were underway.

Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal also phoned DIG Central DIG Feroz Shah and inquired about the incident. He also directed him to enhance snap checking and patrolling and also urged to arrest the culprits carrying out such sort of activities.

This is not the first time when the culprits, apparently belonging to the militant outfits, carried out attack on the law enforcers including Rangers and police. Earlier this year, another check-post of the Rangers, located under the Nazimabad flyover, came under attack after some unidentified persons threw a home-made bottle bomb weighing 250 grams of explosives. Two police mobiles of the Nazimabad police station escaped the bomb attack in the same area after unidentified persons threw bomb at them from the Nazimabad flyover in the last week of January this year.
