ISLAMABAD - The selection criterion for the appointment of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General was discussed in the first meeting of the sub-committee of the Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) here at Pakistan Sports Complex Wednesday.

MNA Sardar Shafqat Hyat Khan Baloch chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Dr Mahreen Razzaque Bhutto, Siraj M Khan, IPC Minster Riaz Pirzada, IPC secretary, PSB DG and other officials. It may be mentioned here that the current PSB DG will retire on February 28.

The meeting discussed that the seat for the PSB DG would be advertized publicly and the PSB officers of Grade-19 can also apply for the said post. “The person, who will apply for the post, must be aged in between 50 to 62 years and the tenure of the post will be of 3 years,” the members decided.

The person must have minimum qualification of a Masters degree in Sports, however, a PHD in Sports will be preferred. “The candidates must have two first divisions in their qualification career,” they said and added: “Their degrees must be verified from the Higher Education Commission (HEC).”

They said the candidates, who will apply, must have an experience of 5 to 15 years in the relevant field. “A board should be formed to look into the candidates headed by the IPC minister,” they said and added the board would send the names of the shortlisted candidates to the Prime Minister.

It is quite interesting that the IPC minister has been crossing all the limits, forgetting that appointment of PSB DG is purely provocative of Prime Minister and it was never heard or witnessed before in the history of PSB that a committee is formed to appoint or select the DG. Pirzada’s love affair with incumbent DG Akhtar Ganjera is never ending, despite the fact that Ganjera is on the brink of retirement and officially, his retirement is due on February 28, but the IPC minister is using every trick and tool to get extension for his blue-eyed Ganjera as DG.

Shafqat Hayat and Pirzada were of the view that they want to ensure merit and only suitable candidate must be appointed as new PSB DG, that’s why they has decided to advertise the post, so that sports-related persons should be appointed as new PSB DG and sports in the country may flourish.

The sources inside the PSB said that Ganjera, knowing his time is almost over, is busy in plundering with national wealth with both hands and there is absolutely no one, who may stop him from these wrongdoings. They added that Ganjera is getting fake bills of millions of rupees from contractor Ijaz Akbar, who is also working as XEN, a post, which the gentleman is illegally occupying. He also managed to get bogus bills of millions of rupees in MES format, which is only used by army. When the PSB has its own maintenance wing, then what is the purpose of awarding contracts to an outsiders.

It is crystal clear that something fishy fishy is going right under the nose of the IPC minister, who openly admits some corruption is going on, but rather than having check and balance on it, he raises fingers at others. Pirzada time and again termed the PSB as gold mine, so he must reveal those, who are reaping all the benefits from it.
