Quetta - Balochistan Frontier Corps (North) Sector Commander Brigadier Nadeem Sohail Wednesday said fencing at Pak-Afghan border in Chaman would commence soon.

“The step will help strengthen security on the border as it would prevent illegal influx from other side of the border,” Brigadier Nadeem said in his address to a joint jirga organised by political parties of Qilla Abdullah, traders, and district administration and security officials.

He went on to say: “We will maintain peace at all costs. No compromise will be made while maintaining law and order. Fencing at the Afghan border will be done to maintain law and order.”

Nadeem Sohail said the security forces had foiled a terror attempt by seizing IEDs and ammunitions on Chaman border which the terrorists planned to disrupt peace in the county.

The commander noted that the fencing was in the best interest of both countries which would help in controlling the illegal influx. He pledged to compensate the tribesmen whose houses would be affected by this step.

“Compensation for tribes – whose houses will be affected due to fencing at border – will be announced,” Brigadier Nadeem Sohail said, adding that special cards will be issued for the affected tribesmen.

For quick facilitation at the Chaman border, the FC commander maintained that more staff of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) would be deployed and visa section would be established to ensure rapid issuance of visa to people who could not move to Quetta for the acquisition of Afghanistan’s visa. The security official added that scanner would also be installed at the border to improve security surveillance of the vehicles.

“Afghan nationals entering Pakistan on the Afghan document (Tazkira) won’t be accepted after February 28 and no one will be allowed because no record of the Afghani Tazkira is available,” Brigadier Nadeem averred.

He maintained they had repeatedly demanded the Afghan government modernise Tazkira, but no action had been taken so far. “Introducing passport visa system will help prevent infiltration of miscreants into the country. This move will also provide job opportunities,” he added.
