TV channels barred from promoting Valentine’s Day


ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority advised TV channels to stop promotion of Valentine’s Day in the light of Islamabad High Court’s directives. 

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the PEMRA said that as per the IHC order dated February 13, 2017, the respondents had been directed to ensure that nothing about celebrations of Valentine’s Day and its promotion is spread on electronic and print media.

No event shall be held at official level and at any public place. Chairman PEMRA is directed to ensure that all the TV channels shall stop the promotion of Valentine Day, forthwith, the court order stated.

The IHC orders are still in the field. Therefore, all broadcast media and distribution services licensees are advised to desist from promoting Valentin’se Day through their respective channels/networks, the PEMRA said.– STAFF REPORTER


RCB cancels lease of 12 educational institutions


RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Cantonment Board cancelled lease of 12 plots in Westridge area on which illegal buildings were erected to set up private educational institutions violating the rules.

RCB spokesman Qaiser Mahmood said that parents of the students studying in private educational institutions on leased plots in Westridge area had been informed about the situation.

If the buildings are not vacated, then action will be taken against the violators, he said, adding that the owners had been issued notices and given time to vacate the buildings.

The spokesman said that the educational institutions in the area which were served notices included Dar-e-Arqam, Global Education Academy, Ready Elementary School, National Officers Academy, The City School, Beacon House School, Excellence College, International Islamic University School, Bahria Foundation College, SLS School, Fauji Foundation School and Dar-e-Arqam at Aibak Road.–APP
