ISLAMABAD -  Former chairman PTV Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi has cost millions of rupees to the state-run organisation during his stint, a sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee was informed on Wednesday.

The sub-committee of PAC chaired by MNA Shafqat Mehmood reviewed the performance of the state-run television (PTV). The committee sought  details of salaries and allowances given to the former chairman PTV.

The secretary information told the meeting that Qasmi drew Rs1.5 million as a monthly salary, Rs1 million as travelling allowance and Rs2.4 million as entertainment allowance. He said that PTV also bore more than Rs62 million for Qasmi’s talk-show.

To a question raised about the entitled vehicles for MP-1 official, the audit officials told the MP-1 is entitled to avail one vehicle according to the prescribed rules and regulations.

To a query raised by MNA Arif Alvi about travelling allowance of the former chairman PTV, the committee was informed that over Rs1 million travelling allowance was given to him.

When asked about the number of vehicles remained at the disposal of former chairman, the secretary information could not fully satisfy the committee on it.

The secretary information informed that Rs7 billion had been given to five thousand employees of PTV.

About the performance of PTV, he said the state-run TV falls on 18th number in rating as compared to rest of the media channels, he added.

He said that all-out efforts would be made to improve the performance of state-run TV.

About the news published about the salary package of former chairman PTV Att-ul-Haq Qasmi, he said that the chief justice had already taken notice of it. “No news was published in media about the package of former chairman PTV as all information had been provided to the honourable court.

Another former chairman PTV Shahid Masood, he said, was getting more than Rs0.8 million. He said that the TADA and medical allowances were given according to the package of MP-1 scale officials. The committee was further informed that Rs60 million was spent on promotion of the former PTV’s chairman Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi TV show.
