KARACHI - Nasir Mushtaq who for the last three years was giving consistent performance at junior level clinched his first crown in a Sindh ranking event when he defeated his mentor former Davis cupper Nomi Qamar in straight sets in the final of the 7th Westbury S9ndh Ranking Tennis here at Southend Club DHA on Wednesday. Eighteen year old Nasir Mushtaq who received professional tennis tips from 30-year Nomi Qamar while learning the game over the years won almost a sixty minutes final 6-4, 7-6. Victory for Nasir Mushtaq in the final came after he had upset top seed and the current Davis cupper Jalil Khan in the semi-finals two days ago. That was the first time that Nasir Mushtaq had defeated Jalil Khan who is amongst the three Khan Brothers who are dominating both the men's and junior national circuit for some time.Nasir has yet to learn and execute good playing shots but he has at least perfected his service. Most of the points that he won in the final came as a result of fierce aces that went past a guessing Nomi Qamar who must be enjoying his pupil excelling his tutor. Most of the times he served his first serve perfectly. In the first set Nasir Mushtaq broke through Nomi Qamar's serve to clinch the lead and the set 6-4.However in the second set, the game score progressed with each player holding service until the score tied at six all. It was through a fine ace that Nasir took the winning 7-5 points to win the tie breaker and his first men's singles crown. Ranked highest on the ITF junior latest ranking list amongst Pakistanis, Nasir Mushtaq needs patronizing attention from the PTF which needs fresh and young talent which could serve the country for number of years. With Aqeel Khan nearing the end of his Davis cup career and Aisamul Haq concentrating on greener pastures abroad, the PTF would not rue on investing on a talented player who had already spent his own family money to get experience abroad. Junior under 17 singles went to Zuhair Raza who defeated Omer Shahid 6-3, 7-5 in the final which was shifted to morning on the request of Zubair Raza who had informed the organizers that as he had to attend the religious procession he would not be able to play in the aftrernoon. The organizers accepted the request and held the match in the morning.
