Zulfikar Ali Bhutto served as the 9th Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1973 to 1977. However, General Zia-ul Haq in a military coup took over the country and by sending Bhutto to the gallows again put fresh life to the decaying party. The same orchestra was repeated when Ms Benazir Bhutto was sworn in as prime minister for the first time in 1988 but was removed from office 20 months later under the order of then President Ghulam Ishaq Khan on grounds of alleged corruption. In 1993, Benazir was re-elected but was again removed in 1996 on similar charges, this time by President Farooq Lagari. PPP saw another election victory after the assassination of Benazir on December 27, 2007 thus enabling the party to come to power on March 22, 2008 when its public ratings were quite low considering behind the door secret deals going on with General Pervaiz Musharaf with the help of the American mediators. Now that the government has become vulnerable after loosing its majority in the assemblies, the best option is to let PPP rule the country for full 5 year term and then die its own death instead of removing it and making them victims.
