BAHAWALNAGAR - The Bahawalpur police have claimed that abduction for ransom incidents in Kacha area of Sindh have been reduced in the wake of the grand operation carried out by the Sindh and Punjab police jointly.
Addressing a press conference at Bakhshan Khan police station, Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Abid Qadri said that the operation was conducted successfully resulting in reduction in such incidents there. He said that a kidnapper gangs’ girls contacted on cell phone in the pretext of friendship with the youngsters of Punjab and invite them to Sindh and then handed over them to kidnappers. Later, abductors demand heavy amount in the shape of ransom from the parents of abductees.
He thanked the people who donated armoured fighting vehicle worth Rs10 million to the police for the operation along with other necessary articles. He said that the operation would continue to protect the life and the property of the citizens. He disclosed that 18 police officers in uniform were handcuffed for conducing fictitious investigation of cases and taking bribe. He assured that no police officer will be allowed in future to misbehave with citizens in the region; also non-registration of genuine cases could not be tolerated at any cost. He further said that the police officials would be accommodated and posted at their native towns but their negligence would not be tolerated.
He further said that three of four police officials who lost their lives in Baghdad colony Chishtian incident have been declared police martyrs by the department, and now their families will be awarded three million rupees each with full pay and other privileges. Earlier, the RPO addressed an open court and heard public complaints against police and said that if police fails to arrive at incident spot on public complaint within three hours, SHO concerned will be put under suspension.
He also extended warning and said that entry of informers in police stations will be prohibited, saying without public close cooperation, police could not achieve its target. “Mohalla” committees comprising citizen would also be constituted.
, while no police officer will be allowed to involve in property acquisition cases, he concluded. The open court was attended by all the SHOs and SDPOs of the district.
