LAHORE - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday constituted a Special Task Force comprising eminent businessmen to come up with a roadmap to address the energy shortage faced by the country’s industrial sector.
He was talking to a group of eminent businessmen led by Gohar Ijaz, Group leader of All Pakistan Textile Mills (APTMA), who apprised him of the problems and acute shortage of natural gas, being faced by the industry.
The Prime Minister constituted a Special Task Force (STF) that would present its recommendations within six days and suggest ways to overcome gas deficiency within six months.
The STF has been mandated to give its report to the Energy Committee comprising of Ministers of Finance, Water and Power, Petroleum, Governor State Bank of Pakistan and Deputy Chairman Planning Commission.
The STF would comprise Shahid Abdullah, CEO Sapphire, Amir Fayyaz CEO Kohinoor, Mohsin Aziz Chairman APTMA, SM Bashir CEO Suraj, Mian Anjum Nisar CEO ATS, Fawad Ahmed Mukhtar CEO Fatima Group and Waqar Malik Chairman ICI.
The Prime Minister will preside over the meeting of Energy Committee that would discuss the roadmap to discuss the issue of gas deficiency for the industry.
The business delegation assured the Prime Minister that they would be glad to invest and willing to be a major stakeholder in the implementation of the roadmap for a better future of the country and its industrial sector. Gilani appreciated the positive approach of the industrial sector and assured that the government would do all within its resources to help the industry thrive.
