KARACHI – A Balochistan-based TTP commander was killed while his associate was arrested in a raid on their hideout on Rashid Minhas Road on Saturday, CID officials said.

The CID had been tipped off about their presence in the remits of the Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station. Two security personnel were also wounded in the exchange of fire.

The TTP commander, Syed Yasin Shah alias Asghar Baloch, son of Faqeerullah, and his associate, Syed Yar Shan, had been dispatched to Karachi by top TTP leader Qari Shakeel, said a senior police official.

Two hand grenades, one 9MM pistol, one TT pistol, a snatched car and several rounds were seized from them. Syed Yasin Shah had involvement in killings of Noor Khan, Malang Khan, Hassan Gul, Mehboos Khan, Jan Muhammad and others, SSP Fayyaz Khan said, adding that he also had a hand in the attacks on Telenor and Mobilink franchises on December 22, 2011 and January 2, 2012, respectively. The senior policeman further said that the group used to collect extortion money by harassing businessmen and multinational companies.

The injured policeman included Arshad and Wajid.
