MIRPUR (AJK) - AJK Minister for Information Syed Bazil Hussain Naqvi said on Monday that an integrated plan was being evolved to promote and strengthen relationship between the AJK government and the media and transform the Press Information Department into a vibrant institution.
"The proposed plan involve the inter-district, inter-provincial and intra-Kashmir study trips of the AJK journalists to strengthen and improve their professional skills and potential, enabling them to serve the nation and the country in a befitting manner", the minister said this while addressing journalists here at Kashmir Press Club on Monday.
He was accompanied by AJK PID Deputy Director (Information) Raja Azher Iqbal, Press Secretary to AJK Prime Minister Zaffar Mughal and other officials of the Information Department. According to the minister, his visit to the press club aims at getting stock of the problems of the local journalists confronted with.
Press Club President Syed Abid Hussain Shah, Secretary General Sajjad Jiraal, Senior Journalists including Altaf Hamid Rao, Hafiz Muhammad Maqsood, SVP Syed Qamar Hayat, Rana Shabir Rajourvi and others highlighted the problems being faced by the local media men.
On the occasion, Bazil Naqvi said that the government had fixed priorities to make affective the AJK Press Foundation in letter and spirit for the welfare of the working journalists. He said that a policy was also being reviewed to make more effective the indiscriminate distribution of official advertisements of the AJK government and the semi-government departments through the district correspondents of the national English and Urdu dailies besides the regional periodicals through the Divisional Information offices.
The minister said that Divisional Information Offices in Mirpur, Muzaffarabad Rawlakot had already been empowered for the disbursement of the amounts of the advertisement bills directly at the pattern of the PID Pakistan, to ensure in time payment to the newspapers. He assured that the payment of all pending bills of the govt advertisements would be made soon.
He also assured to streamline the policy for issuance of accreditation cards by the AJK PID to working journalists without any discrimination.
Bazil Naqvi said that the Press Information Department would perform as a bridge between the government and the media to ensure extensive coverage of the development activities of the public sector institutions.
The minister Information said that the Kashmir freedom movement had reached at its decisive turn and it was enjoined upon the national print and electronic media to perform their professional duties in effective manner with more responsibilities for the massive projection of the importance of early peaceful settlement of the Kashmir problem. He said that the state government was keen to resolve the problems of the local journalists on priority basis.
goats-lifters busted: The farmers overpowered three goat-lifters and handed them over to police after beating them here in Chak 685/26 GB on Saturday.
Reportedly, the motorcycle-borne thieves were taking away two goats, owned by one Shakil Gujjar. However, the locals spotted them and started chasing them. The culprits, however, hide in a sugarcane field. At which the locals besieged the field and managed to overpower them.
 Later, they thrashed them and handed them over to the police. The police however did not disclose their identities.
