LAHORE - The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has appointed noted US-based Pakistani doctor Prof Asher Chanan Khan as the adjunct professor of the university.

Prof Chanan is currently holding the chair of haematology, oncology and bone marrow transplantation at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine Florida, USA. Young Pakistani scientist has been honoured with the “Best Doctors in America” award in 2007, 2009 and 2010. Recently, US media has recognized him as one of the ‘top one per cent doctors in America’.

Meanwhile,  Dr Anya L Hunt, international application specialist from Molecular Machines and Industries, Switzerland, has said that ‘the key to success in cancer treatments is fast and accurate diagnosis, target specific treatments and effective monitoring of the disease’.

Speaking at a seminar on “Laser Microdissection and Circulating Tumors” here at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Monday, Dr Hunt said that laser microdissection was a widely utilized technology in life science research and for clinical application.

It was mainly used to accurately dissect diseased cells from healthy biopsy material, she said, adding, that the latest technology was an essential tool for early diagnosis of cancers and neurological disorders, and it was established as a step towards personalized medicine.
