LAHORE - Three former parliamentarians, 20 former nazims and naib nazims among others announced joining the PPP during a meeting with Central Punjab PPP President Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo here Monday.
Among the new entrants in the PPP include former MNA Amjad Yaseen, former MPA from Layyah, Syed Fazal Hussain and former provincial minister Syed Sajjad Hussain Bokhari, Malik Ijaz Arian from Lodhran, and Saith Amjad, Chairman Sootar Mandi Faisalabad.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Wattoo while referring to the long march of Dr Tahir Qadri said they would not let anyone to thwart the election process. He said the election would be transparent and fresh reforms in the electoral process were not needed at this stage.
He also overruled the possibility of the long mach being held and observed, the people were aware of the motive behind it.
He said even the march was held, the marchers should be served tea, bone-fire and a cozy bed in this rigid cold weather.
He said the agenda of Dr Tahirul Qadri for long march was not understandable after the government had brought about a number of reforms in the constitution through 18, 19 and 20 amendments.
Answering to a query, he said the public awareness about the next elections was above suspicion as such the PPP would accept whatever decision they took.
Wattoo also deplored absence of the PML-N in the Governor dinner while expelling the impression of any rift between the PPP and the PML-Q.
Replying to a question, Wattoo said no scope for election rigging was there in the presence of independent judiciary, army and an upright chief election commissioner.
When a question was asked as to the disqualification of the political parties which failed to hold the intra-party election, Wattoo expressed the hope that the election commission would not bar the parties from taking part in the election and added the PPP would hold the party election wherever they are required.
