ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee has selected an ordinary squad for the ICC World Cup 2015 to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand and their chances to win the mega event looks quite bleak.

Moin Khan managed to include a few 'surprise' packages and the most interesting of them is inclusion of youngster Sohail Khan. Though Sohail proved his mettle in the domestic circuit yet there is also an impact of favouring a certain province as far as his inclusion in the squad is concerned. With his inclusion proved heavy for quality all-rounder Bilalwal Bhatti, who could fill the gap as the team is in dire need of an all-rounder.

Ehsan Adil is not fully fit and remained injury-prone right throughout his career. So his inclusion will affect Pakistan fast bowling badly, especially when Wahab and Junaid have hardly recovered from injuries, taking a bowler like Ehsan Adil is not a clever move. Now Pakistan team badly depends on part-time bowler. If Ehsan is included in the playing XI and he gets injured, Pakistan team will suffer and it will be almost impossible for them to bowl complete overs.

Haris Sohail will be under enormous pressure, as he has to score runs in the middle of the innings and must be prepared to bowl full quota of overs as well. It will not be an easy task for the youngster, who has hardly cemented his place in the national team.

Moin termed his selection as the best possible one but on the other hand, it is described as the weakest side ever. It also shows that there is no room for the players who perform at domestic level and conducting of Pentangular Cup One-day is not more than an eye-washer. What was the purpose of holding an event, when majority of the players didn't participate in it and secondly, the players, who performed well in it, were not even considered instead a bowler, who has well past his peak days, is selected purely on personal liking. Pakistan team has not won the mega event for the last 22 years, and by picking well below par team, how can we expect Pakistan can lift the coveted trophy.

It was time and again mentioned that Moin is not the person to take Pakistan cricket in the right direction, but no heed was paid. Now selecting this side, Moin has confirmed he doesn't have any know how about the selection and he just prefers his personal interests. It is not about Moin’s image, but it is the country's image which is on stake. The PCB chairman should have used commonsense before approving the final 15.

Pakistan batting looks pretty decent but the main area of concern will be the bowling department, which looks quite shaky and inexperienced. It will be very hard for these bowlers to provide early breakthrough and keeping in mind there will be no Saeed Ajmal and Hafeez to control the damages, who will be the bowler on whom the captain can depend upon to provide wickets. Raza Hasan could resolve that issue, but he was overlooked. Yasir Shah, although could prove a secret weapon, yet he had no experience or idea of playing on those tracks and conditions. The situation looks very grim for the green caps and no one else but Moin and PCB chairman must give that simple answer and justify their team selection criteria.
