PSB suffering at the hands of incompetent DDG Administration

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) top brass’ wrongdoings, corruption and dubious activities are order of the day but IPC Minister Riaz Pirzada is least bothered about taking action against them.

In yet another act of misuse of powers, PSB Deputy Director General Administration Mansoor Ahmed Khan, who was recently termed as anti-worker and employees were ordered by the IPC minister to break his legs, has now been enjoying too much support and liberty and has been given free hand to do whatever he want. He conducts party every day in his room, where he invites different females, play table tennis and badminton matches during office timings, but there is no one, who may dare to stop the gentleman from doing strange things in his office.

Mansoor, who joined the PSB a few months back, is making all the shots. He poses himself above all the rules and regulations and becomes acting PSB DG, whenever Akhtar Ganjera embarks on official tours. During that period, he takes full advantage and uses all his good offices, as he has previously worked in PTV, CDA and Prime Minister office and has won the backing of the IPC minister.

Whenever this scribe visited Mansoor’s office, which is now shifted to a huge room with all the facilities available there and he has always staffers around him and mostly remains busy in enjoying chit chat, rather than focusing on performing his official duties.

When this scribe asked Mansoor on what grounds he had given tenders to vendors during the recently-concluded 2nd Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games, who had filed the highest bids, Mansoor had no answers and rather requested not to publish the story. When this scribe asked Mansoor on what grounds a whopping Rs 0.9 million bill was submitted by the canteen contractor, who has been offering highly substandard meal and not even fulfilling his promise of providing better-quality things, he once again couldn’t spell out a single word.

Mansoor is a head of all the committees and member and he included highly dubious character Ijaz Akbar, contractor, who is inflicting huge damages on national kitty and involved in submitting high-price bills and using MES system to get contracts. It was Mansoor’s duty to ensure price check and provide best available stuff to athletes and officials but he failed to maintain even the basic things and doesn’t deserve to be on such a high-profile seat, where the responsibility is much higher.

When asked why the athletes and officials were provided pathetic and sub-standard tracksuits and shoes on such a high prices of Rs 3,000 and Rs 6,000 respectively and a whopping Rs 1 million were spent on decoration, Mansoor failed to give any explanation.

The senior most PSB employees were sitting on ground stands during the Quaid Games while blue-eyed junior staff was enjoying each and every perk in the PM box. When asked about on what grounds hotels were hired for the athletes, who didn’t even fulfill required criteria and millions were spent on renovation of Liaqat Gymnasium, emergency whitewash, on what grounds so expensive rent a cars were hired, Mansoor failed to justify.

When asked the purpose of engaging female staffers to witness his matches by violating the office discipline, Mansoor didn’t have any answers. When asked about his service’s past record and his promotions from Grade-16 onwards and that was the reason why the establishment division had rejected his summary of becoming next PSB Director General and where are the proofs of his promotion to different grades, Mansoor failed to answer the simple question.

The time is high when Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi must take notice of such awkward situation in the PSB and an independent inquiry should be conducted to unearth not only bungling of millions, but other highly important things as well. Rather than pressing ahead with Mansoor as next DG, the IPC minister must first check seniority list and provide justice to those, who really deserve to be next DG.

Mansoor was a reason of huge embarrassment for the country during the recent visit of Pakistan youth delegation to China, where the gentleman wasn’t able to communicate well with Chinese and was also involved in a number of incidents, which brought bad name to the country. Such person must be shown the door instead of passing on further benefits.

When this scribe contacted PSB Director General Akhtar Ganjera to seek his point of view and why the staffers are not observing office timings and busy in winning Mansoor’s backing, Ganjera said: “I have time and again passed orders to follow timings, but, as all know that I am entering the final days of my long career, so they are not taking my orders seriously. I will take strict action against all those, who are violating office discipline and not going to tolerate any such thing.” He also assured of filing a report to the IPC minister in this regard.
