Karachi  - A division bench of Sindh High Court comprising Chief Justice Azizullah M Memon and Justice Khalid Ali Z Kazi Monday issued notice to Advocate General Sindh, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, MD Pakistan State Oil, MD Shell limited, Country representative CHARON (CalTex) ltd, MD Total Parco Pakistan Ltd and CNG Dealers Association for July 10, 2008 on petition filed against over charging petroleum products and CNG by distributors. Petitioner Maqbulur-Rehman, a lawyer approached SHC against over charging on petroleum products and CNG by its distributors. He stated Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources announced increase in petroleum products and CNG prices after which distributors started selling CNG at Rs 50/KG. Later Ministry issued corrigenda staying prices were not raised by 31% but only Rs 4.5 were increased on said products and due to this irresponsible act of government, a loss of billions was caused to general public. He cited news clipping of a private TV channel wherein an official of Petroleum Ministrty stated prices of petroleum and CNG would not be raised unless a notification of ministry is issued. Petitioner claimed CNG pumps in Karachi were charging Rs 47.35/KG to Rs 50/KG in violation of fixed prices by government. He prayed court to direct respondents to return amount over charged by them to public who paid extra on said commodities through proper receipts and sought inquiry against those responsible for negligence. The division bench after preliminary hearing issued notice to respondents for July 10, 2008.
