KARACHI - Realizing the urgent need of the SMEs the Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) with the help of its volunteers has set up SME Business Facilitation Centre (SMEBFC) at Karachi to facilitate SMEs obtain finance at competitive rates , comprehensive insurance cover, leasing on best terms, legal aid, trade marks and copy rights registration , product improvement services , marketing and logistics services under one roof.  Syed Iqbal Kidwai, General Manager Operations & Out reach of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) inaugurated the SMEBFC. He congratulated UNISAME and said such centres should be established all over the      country. He assured full support and requested UNISAME to work in close co-ordination with SMEDA. He said SMEs can play an important role in rebuilding the economy and invited them to visit SMEDA's offices all over the country for upgrading their units and asked them to come forward and benefit from SMEDA"s network and expertise. President UNISAME said SMEDA needs to be strengthened as it has experienced and dedicated officials but insufficient to carry out such enormous task and needs to double its strength to meet the growing demands of the sector secondly he urged the government to pay the officials according to market rates as most of the experienced staff well versed with SME uplift are leaving due to less remuneration. He said SMEs facing difficulties in obtaining competitive rates from commercial banks can now contact the SMEBFC for guidance regarding best rates from banks genuinely  interested in SME business likewise he said the centre will advise the SMEs on obtaining insurance cover for their units, vehicles and shipments on reasonable terms He added that leasing is an important tool in SME promotion and the centre will examine the subject and direct them to the most favourable leasing company for leasing of their plants, equipments, vehicles and other productive assets. UNISAME volunteers have made arrangements with consultants to advise and guide the SMEs regarding trade marks and copy rights registration and protection whilst  SMEDA will support and assist UNISAME in product improvement, marketing and free legal aid Arrangements have been finalized with IAL logistics for warehousing, cargo movement and shipping facilities and SMEs can benefit from their global network and efficient services. Similarly arrangements for financial consultancy have been made with Progressive Financial Services Pvt Ltd for mortgage financing, running finance and bridge financing
