Rawalpindi - Police following the instructions of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja conducted several raids against anti-social elements and criminals in the division and recovered huge cache of arms, narcotics and other valuables.

The police busted several gangs and nabbed their members. According to RPO Office spokesman, Rawalpindi police intensified action against anti-social elements in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal districts on special instructions of RPO Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja during the last six months. He added that police busted a total of 61 gangs by arresting 219 members, besides recovering stolen stuff worth Rs 238,489,590, 113 pistols, 522 rounds, three riffles and two repeaters from their possession.

Similarly, police rounded up 38 gangs in Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock and held 143 members and seized arms and ammunition from their possession.

In Rawalpindi, he said, police captured 704 outlaws and recovered 13 Kalashnikov, 46 rifles, 40 guns, one revolver and 10,315 cartridges from them. Police action in the three others districts led to detention of 540 criminals with recovery of one grenade, 16 Kalashnikov, 55 rifles,

70 guns, 18 revolvers, 367 pistols and 7,882 bullets, he added.

He mentioned that police had taken stern action against drug peddlers during the last six months in Rawalpindi and held 1473 narcotics sellers and recovered 21-kg heroin, 40-kg opium, 540-kg hashish, and 13,169 bottles of liquor. In Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock, police apprehended 905 accused and recovered 32-kg heroin, 7-kg opium, 1168-kg hashish, 8,723 bottles of alcohol, he added.

He said that 7 encounters took place in the city in which four cops and four criminals were killed whereas two others got injured. As many as 16 accused were held, he said adding that five encounters also reported in other three districts till June 2015.
