Islamabad - Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad police has busted an inter-provincial gang of dacoits and recovered two vehicles and weapons from five gangsters nabbed after police encounter, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

According to details, SIU team received information from reliable sources about presence of gangsters in an area of Islamabad who were involved in targeting the money changer vehicles, normally carrying the money from Mansehra to Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Following the information, a police team rushed towards Sangjani Toll Plaza Islamabad. They spotted two suspected vehicles near Sarae Madu in the area of Tarnol police station and chased them. The occupants of the vehicles opened fire at the police van. The police also retaliated and managed to stop one of the vehicles (AUQ-485) and nabbed five persons identified as Asfandyar alias Haji s/o Zameer Khan, Sheeren Khan s/o Masoom khan, Sultan Mehmood s/o Wali Muhammad, Abdul Kareem s/o Abdul Rasheed and Shaukat Khan s/o Adam khan. Police also recovered four 30-bore pistols and ammunition from them while occupant of the other vehicle (LZS-6608) escaped towards the jungle area by taking benefit of darkness.

After initial investigation from the nabbed accused, the absconders have been identified as Agha, Shabran, Aman Noor alias Damany and Abdul Majeed alias Sheena Bajoori. A police team has been constituted to ensure their arrest.

IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan and SSP Sajid Kiani have appreciated the police performance.

Meanwhile, Secretariat police have booked two unknown persons for hurling threats on one Ch Muhammad Faraz over some traffic issue. Faraz was coming on a car near Dhokri Chowk when a Hiace wagon (JF-0149) hit his car and later the occupants extended threats to the complainant. Police have booked the accused under section 279, 427 and 506 of the PPC and are striving for their arrest.
