PML-N seeks project lists from public reps

LAHORE - The Pakistan Muslim League-N leadership has sought the lists of local development schemes from its public representatives for better local bodies electioneering, sources have disclosed.
According to sources, the party MNAs and MPAs were also asked to submit suggestion prior to the election schedule. The public reps have been advised to put public projects on these lists. Moreover, special focus on young workers has been stressed.
“The parliamentarians have been asked to consult senior party activists so that vote bank can be secured to make it success in the LG elections” they said, adding that disgruntled workers would be wooed back.
“The leadership has advised attaching top priority to youth betterment schemes while preparing the lists. The young workers can play pivotal party for making it success in local government polls. Directives for timely completion of the ongoing UCs projects have also been issued to lawmakers to win public support for the upcoming local bodies polls,” the sources added.
They said the government asked the assembly members to hold indoor meetings with their favourites for upcoming local bodies elections and the workers who might be good candidates as well as per their opinion or observation.
“Before submitting lists, their opinion on development schemes and small projects needed to be launches in their UCs must be proffered,” the sources added.

The Punjab government also directed the district administrators and other authorities concerned to speed up work on the under-construction and ongoing development projects.
According to sources in the City District Government Lahore (CDGL), more than 500 development schemes like construction and patchwork of roads and streets, water and sanitation have been delayed due to lack of funds while slow work on some small projects have also been reported.

Besides small development schemes and projects, provincial government has launched some mega projects worth billion of rupees in the provincial capital. Among them is re-construction of Mall Road, proposed construction of Expressway, under-construction Signal Free Corridor from Liberty Market to LOS via Gulberg Main Boulevard and Jail road with the construction of a number of underpasses and overhead bridges, construction of Greater Iqbal Park and mainly the proposed mega project of 27 km long Orange-line Train.
“Although all these proposed mega projects have been launched by PML-N led government but such projects have not been launched keeping in view the upcoming Local Bodies elections but these projects might prove landmark for the PML-N led government in the next general elections”, the sources concluded.
