PTI backs traders against imposition of new levy

National Organizer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that the PTI fully supported traders’ stance on imposition of 0.6 per cent tax on transaction of every of 50,000 and party’s line of action on this topic would be announced in July 9 meeting of central executive committee.
Addressing a news conference here at Multan Press Club on Tuesday, he added that the PTI had opposed this tax in budget session but the government brought the traders of entire country to the roads. He said that the new tax would promote the culture of cash payments as a result of which banks would suffer serious financial losses. He added that the new tax would cause increase in price hike and imports besides leaving negative impacts on exchange rate. He pointed out that the salaried persons would face double taxation while economy would face serious setback. He said that the markets of Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala were shut today while the traders took to the roads across the country. He warned that the PTI would express complete solidarity with the traders if the government did not withdraw the tax.
He said that the government tried to give fake impact of a stronger economy under a plan to influence upcoming decision of judicial commission. He added that stock exchange and economy were two separate elements but the government mingled them. He said that the PTI had handed over all evidence of rigging to the judicial commission and the decision was likely to come before Eid. He said that the members of PPP and other political parties joined PTI because they knew that PTI was the largest party of future. He said that those who did not quit their party despite Zia’s lashes turned to PTI because of Imran Khan’s policies. He claimed that very soon ticket holders of PML-N from Gujranwala and many other towns would join PTI.
To a query, he said that the PTI had paid to DJ Butt even more than the price of his equipment. “But if there is still something outstanding, we’re ready to pay it,” he added. Answering another question, he said that registration of cases against those who protested against loadshedding was injustice. He lamented that the government doubled the price of electricity and took the duration of loadshedding up to 18 hours. He said that the PML-N pointed finger to the PTI while they made those ministers who held portfolios in the government of Musharraf and Q league. He said that the doors of political parties remained always open, adding that the PTI would not neglect its workers and youth.
