ISLAMABAD - Young Doctors Association (YDA) Islamabad Chapter on Wednesday urged the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) for early release of Covid-19 risk allowance of healthcare workers (HCWs).
A statement released by YDA said that a meeting of YDA cabinet and focal persons was held to discuss various issues including delay in Covid risk allowance. It has been decided not to accept further delay in payment of Covid risk allowance and demands immediate and fair distribution of the allowance.
They also demanded that covid risk allowance should be paid according to Dr. Wajahat Aziz committee recommendations according to their work in high risk and low risk areas. They said whether it is ministry, accounts or admin; sufferers are the healthcare workers who worked day and night during the pandemic. YDA said when they contact ministry, it says the delay is by admin and accounts as they had themselves taken four basic pays in first wave so this time they have been creating hurdles. Admin says accounts and ministry are responsible as they have provided lists multiple times while accounts say administration has caused the delay. “It is strange that even after Speaker NA direction on the floor, risk allowance has not been paid. Young doctors said risk allowance should be paid at the earliest as Eid ul Azha is drawing nearer,” said the statement. YDA said that if still Covid allowance is not paid we have no option left other than protest. It has also been demanded from the administration of PIMS to display the list of names forwarded for corona allowance to avoid any discrepancies.
None of the lists forwarded by admin is displayed which leads to unrest among young doctors.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Hyder Abbasi Chairman YDA Islamabad, Dr. Faiz Achakzai president YDA Islamabad, Dr. Tahir Abbas President YDA PIMS, Dr. Tariq Khan Vice president YDA PIMS, Dr. Urooj Vice president YDA PIMS, Dr. Sher Ali Gen. Secretary YDA PIMS, and other leaders and focal persons of YDA PIMS including Dr. Musarrat, Dr. Kaleem, Dr. Mujtaba, Dr. Ibtesam, Dr. Shahjihan, Dr. Saghir Kumar, Dr. Zakir Jamal and many others.
