ISLAMABAD - Three hosts, top seed Aamir Atlas Khan, Mansoor Zaman, Farhan Mehboob and only foreigner Aaron Frankcomb from Australia qualified for the semi-finals of the 19th Chief of Air Staff (CAS) International Squash Championship 2008, which will be played today at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad. Defending champion Aamir Atlas Khan will take on Australian challenger Aaron Frankcomb in the first semi-final, while Mansoor Zaman will meet compatriot Farina Mehboob in the second semi-final of the championship at the same venue. On Saturday, in the first quarter-final, top seed Aamir Atlas had to work hard to overcome compatriot 5th seed Yasir Butt 3-2, as he (Yasir) claimed vital game on tiebreak to get lead 2-1 in the match. Aamir bounced back in the match by winning penultimate game 11-7. However, after winning 4th game Aamir did not allow his challenger to settle in the court and finished the 5th game in similar style 11-7.   Aamir hit powerful drives and played classic drop short in the last two games, as the lanky Butt was unable to reach at the ball. Yasir was also looking tired after losing the crucial third on tiebreak. The final score-line was 11-7, 6-11, 10-12, 11-7 and 11-7 as the match wasted 71 minutes. The 6th seed Aaron Frankcomb toppled 4th seed Jan Koukal 3-1 in the second quarter-final of the international squash showpiece. Frankcomb after losing the first game 5-11, he collated his gathered feathers and settled his feet in the court to topple the high ranking challenger. He halted the title campaign of Czech player by finishing the match at 5-11, 11-6, 11-9, and 11-9 after 59 minutes competition. Left-handed local player Farhan Mehboob stunned Egyptian boy Mohammad El Shorgbagy in straight game in the third quarter-final of the international three stars fixture. Third seed, Frahan Mehbbob toyed to his opponent in the court for 26 minutes and presented a quality game through out the match. His game was blend of powerful drives and beautiful drop shorts and volleys. The final score-line was 11-7, 11-5, and 11-3. In the 4th quarterfinal, second seed Mansoor Zaman outplayed 7th seed Mohammad Ali Anwar Reda from Egypt in straight games 3-0 to move into the semi-final of the prestigious international squash event. Left-handed Mansoor kept his control on the match from the starting and did not show any complacency at the any stage of the match against a lowly ranked rival, as he conceded only 8 points in three-game affair. He wasted only 19 minutes to show exit to Reda, as the final score-line was 11-3, 11-2 and 11-3.
