It has been a year since the intersection of Sarwar Road at Ghulam Ali Road has been badly affected by overflowing gutter water. The residents of the area are suffering due to negligence of the Lahore Cantonment Board. The problem is causing diseases in the area as the water is also becoming contaminated. To my surprise when I called up the Chief Executive of the Lahore Cantt Board, the staff there told me that the new houses for generals built across the road have no drainage facility resulting the waste of these houses clogging the area. It is strange that President Musharraf comes to visit these generals' villas across the road but the issue has still remained unnoticed by the authorities. The Cantonment Board staff also told me that they are in the process of laying down a drain in the area. I don't know when they will be done with this but they would better before the President notices it. -S. ALI MUSTAPHA SHAH, Lahore Cantt., via e-mail, May 26.
