EU curbs on Libyan authorities

BRUSSELS (AFP) - The EU decided Tuesday to add six Moamer Gaddafi-controlled Libyan ports to a list of entities hit with an asset freeze, a spokeswoman said. "The council of the EU adopted a decision today extending the assets freeze to six Libyan port authorities, in view of the gravity of the situation in the country," said a statement. The six ports were not immediately identified, but a spokeswoman for EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton said they were each "Gaddafi-controlled ports." The sanctions will go into effect as of Wednesday when they are published in the EU's Official Journal, or legal log.
