LAHORE Punjab Bar Council Tuesday gave a call to the province-wide lawyers for observing full day strike on Wednesday (today) to remember and express solidarity with the Sahiwal lawyers who came under serious hardships and torturous treatment allegedly at the hand of security agencies in 2007 when they took out a protest procession against the sacking of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary by military dictator Pervez Musharraf. In that incident took place on May 5, 2007, lawyers in Sahiwal faced the most agonizing treatment allegedly at the hand of the police which poured on the demonstrators burning hot oil as a consequence of which, about two dozens lawyers, including office-bearers of the Sahiwal bar, received burn injuries. No serious probe into the incident was held by the Musharraf government to fix responsibility but the lawyers have been continuing to blame the police for perpetrating the act.
