US lawmaker admits he sent lewd photo

NEW YORK - A US Congressman admitted Monday that he had sent explicit photographs of himself to women online and apologized to his wife, Huma Abedin, and constituents for what he called a hugely regrettable mistake. I havent told the truth. And Ive done things I deeply regret. Ive brought pain to people I care about the most and people who believe in me. And for that, Im deeply sorry, an emotional Weiner said at a New York news conference. He said his wife of less than a year knew of some of the online relationships but told her only Monday morning about tweeting the raunchy photo. Ms. Abedin, 34, a Michigan-born Muslim-American raised in Saudi Arabia by a Pakistani mother and an Indian father, is a deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose own marriage had been rocked by her husbands activities. I love my wife very much, he said, and we have no intention of splitting, Weiner, a Democrat, said. I take full responsibility for my actions, Weiner said. I made terrible mistakes and am deeply sorry. I dont know what I was thinking, Weiner said about sending photos over social media and engaging in six inappropriate online relationships in the past three years. The seven-term congressman said he would try to handle this, and didnt rule out seeking professional help. He said he meant to send the photo as part of a joke in a direct message to a woman in Seattle, but accidentally posted it publicly on Twitter. He said he took it down, and claimed his account was hacked, and then I stuck with the story.
