Federal minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada stressed a need for national unity, showing responsibility, commitment and tolerance to cope with the modern day challenges.

He was addressing as the chief guest during an award distribution ceremony arranged by the Bahawalpur Journalists Forum. The minister highly appreciated the role of media but severely criticised the electronic media over the “poor content that was affecting our social, cultural and moral values, and damaging our ideology”.

He said that journalism was a noble mission and journalists must observe the rules and principles to serve and save the country. He appreciated the organisers over conducting the ceremony. He said external elements had badly ruined the government’s set-up while terrorism had blocked the national progress.

He was of the view that all the institutions, organisations and departments had better remain within the constitutional limits and avoid interference in the others’ working. He said that the days were gone when relationships were based on mutual sympathies as everything today had turned into commercialism so “we should not become over confident about any country”.

He said that the condition of education for candidates should be removed as an illiterate person could also deliver if the people rely on such person.

He announced that he would not contest elections after completion of the current tenure as MNA but continue to serve the people of his constituency Khairpur Tamewali and Bahawalpur.
