KARACHI - Rangers ended an hour-long siege of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) senior leader Farooq Sattar’s residence in Karachi yesterday, reported a private TV channel.
More than eight vehicles carrying as many as 30 paramilitary troops raided the street housing Sattar's residence at PIB Colony. The entry and exit routes leading to Sattar’s house were sealed, drawing reservations from MQM.
MQM spokesman Ameenul Haq said that Sattar was present at his residence along with his family.
Speaking to a TV channel, Sattar condemned the raid, saying he had tried to contact director general of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) to express his concerns.
“I deserve better treatment after 30 years of my politics,” he said and demanded the paramilitary troops to allow media coverage.
The raid sent a wave of panic among residents of the area and they were unable to offer Taraveeh due to the siege, the MQM leader added.
To a query, he said the presence of any criminal at his residence was out of question.
"Are they trying to heal people's wounds or adding insult to their injury," he questioned.
Later, a large number of party workers reached Sattar’s place and chanted pro-MQM slogans.
The Rangers is yet to issue a statement about the action. –Samaa
