Professor Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi took oath as caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab at Governor House today.

On June 7, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had nominated Dr Askari was nominated as caretaker chief minister after a parliamentary committee failed to reach a consensus over the proposed candidates.

Dr Askari responded to to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) criticism after his appointment, "No party should worry over the transparency of the upcoming election."

He assured, "We will ensure that free and fair elections are held. I will not use my position for wrong means."

He added, "They [PML-N] have a right to express reservations and it does not affect me if they challenge my appointment."

He further added, "I will fulfill my constitutional responsibility."

Earlier, PML-N expressed reservations over the appointment of Professor Hassan Askari Rizvi as caretaker chief minister Punjab. 

Rana Sanaullah, leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and former law minister Punjab, said on Thursday that PML-N has reservations over the appointment of Dr Hasan Askari as caretaker Chief Minister Punjab.

He remarked, “We have reservations with Dr Askari as he is very vocal against PML-N.” 

He further said, “Dr Askari has always targeted our party.”

Sana expressed reservations saying, “He does not believe in democracy and cannot be expected to ensure work is done on merit and without bias.”

He added, “We have issued a written statement over reservations on Dr Askari’s appointment and we can challenge it.”
