Iranian police have killed six drug traffickers and seized five tonnes of narcotics in eastern Sistan-Baluchestan province, the official IRNA news agency reported. The clashes took place on Saturday afternoon and continued until late in the day, IRNA said, quoting an unnamed source. Eastern Iran, bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, has been the scene of deadly clashes between Iranian security forces and drug smugglers. Dozens of people convicted of drug trafficking are hanged every year in Iran.
