KARACHI - Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan has warned that substandard goods and products would not be tolerated.

The minister, while presiding 6th meeting of Board of Directors of Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) held at the head office here on Wednesday, said that there must be only one national authority to check quality control.

He said that strict laws and capital punishment were under consideration for the manufacturers of counterfeit and un-registered products.

The minister categorically rejected any compromise on quality control issue in the country. He also appreciated PSQCA personals for playing vital role to spread awareness among public to know about quality control culture in Pakistan.

He also appreciated role of NGO’s of consumer rights associations and asked to work with PSQCA side by side for the benefit of common cause.

He claimed that PSQCA was striving hard to bring unregistered products in the net.

The Federal Minister assured that he will not allow unregistered and substandard products in Pakistan.  He also informed that government was going to open PSQCA offices in Sialkot and Gwadar. He directed authority to discourage unauthorised manufacturing and purchase of substandard goods and PSQCA must also ensure that it issues licences only those manufacturers who fully comply with its requirements relating to quality and standards as well.

Director General of PSQCA Pir Bakhsh Khan Jamali also gave Minister a formal briefing. In his detailed meeting he touched upon aspects of developed and undeveloped projects, their achievements and other relevant issues. The Minister showed keen interest in the working and performance of PSQCA and assured his full support in increasing effectiveness of authority to achieve its assigned mandate.
