LAHORE – Former Kasur DPO Gohar Nafees, who was allegedly involved in lodging fake FIRs against the affectees of the Canal Motors Scam, has been posted as SSP (Operations) Multan on Wednesday.
Sources said former IG Punjab Javed Iqbal had refused to meet Mr Nafees after he knew about the ‘achievements’ of the cop. Later, Nafees was closed line to the PHQ and was given the posting of SSP Investigation. Putting his own tall claims on the back regarding merit and work, IGP Haji Habibur Rahman transferred Mr Gohar Nafees, SP Investigation Branch, Punjab, and posted as SSP (Operations) Multan with immediate effect on Wednesday.
The same IG Punjab while addressing his first media press conference last week said: “I assure you only merit would be followed regarding transfer/posting and no police officer with bad repute will be given field posting.” Replying to a query, Haji Habibur Rehman further said those two police officers, who were held guilty in connection with attack on Sri Lankan Cricket Team, would never be given filed posting during his tenure regardless the reality that both have been enjoying field postings in different districts.
“Actually, making tall claims of rule of law, justice, righteousness, honesty and etc are easy to hunt media attraction but implementing the same as practical is quite different thing,” an Additional IG Punjab told this reporter, on the condition of anonymity. According to him, the IG Punjab was doing the same for which he was awarded this lucrative post by replacing former IG Punjab Javed Iqbal.
To a query regarding track record and posting of Gohar Nafees, the Addl IGP said his colleague (another Addl IGP) had conducted an inquiry against Mr Nafees, in which he was held guilty of registering bogus FIRs against the innocent victims and affectees of the Canal Motors Scam.
Similarly, Mr Imran Mahmood, awaiting posting, has also been transferred and posted as SSP Investigation Branch, Punjab, Lahore. Meanwhile, the IG Punjab has transferred Mr Faisal Gulzar, Addl SP Investigation, Civil Lines, Lahore, and posted as SP Special Branch, Punjab, against an existing vacancies.
Cops urged to provide justice to masses: Punjab Police Inspector General has said that a policeman should be a symbol of peace and security and the citizens must feel protection instead of filling with fear in presence of policemen.
Provincial Police Chief Haji Habibur Rehman expressed these views while addressing a passing out parade ceremony held at Police Training School Chung, on Wednesday. Among 840 passed out Jawans, 265 have completed the 6th Upper and 575 Intermediate Class Course.
Habibur Rehman said the basic job of each police officer was to provide justice and relief to the victims and to root out crimes from the society. According to him, the Jawans, who were being assigned field duties should adopt all out efforts to change the police stations into the houses of peace in order to change Thana Culture as per the vision of the Chief Minster.
He also warned the corrupt cops by saying no one among them would be tolerated if held at any stage. He said the cops involved in bribe would be kicked out form the department. Due to the terrorism, responsibilities of the police department increased manifold.
“Elite Police Force and Police Jawans are being providing latest and sophisticated training to counter the emerging challenges of terrorism in which thousands of people have lost their lives,” the IGP added.
During the last four years about 350 Jawans had sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Keeping in view the valuable sacrifices laid by the Jawans, a proposal has been furnished before the Chief Minster for induction of two children each martyred in Police Department.
Provincial Police Chief distributed certificates and cash awards among the outstanding performers of both the courses. Earlier, IGP/Punjab appreciated the services of DIG/Commandant Police Training School, Chung.
