LAHORE–Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the role of media is of great importance in the society. Therefore, media should raise voice for the deprived and oppressed, he added. He said that objectivity and balance is the essence of reporting. He said media can fight injustices and exploitation by arousing conscience of the society.

He was addressing oath-taking ceremony of newly elected office-bearers of Electronic Media Reporters Association and Electronic Media News Cameramen Association at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here Wednesday.

Congratulating the newly-elected office-bearers of electronic media organization, CM said in a short span of time, electronic media has made tremendous progress and has gained today much importance in our life. He said it was electronic media which played an important role by way of highlighting the sad incident that took place during the by-elections in Sindh.

The CM media men discharged their responsibilities in a very tough situation during the flood. He said that on the appeal of Punjab government an amount of Rs.1.55 billion was donated for the rehabilitation of flood affectees, with which, model villages were constructed and flood affectees were rehabilitated. He also announced to convene a special meeting in the next week for resolution of the problems of the people associated with the electronic media and assured that Punjab government will take all possible steps for their welfare.

President EMRA Tanvir Shahzad and President Electronic Media News Cameramen Association Waheed Butt also addressed the function. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Salman Rafique, Pervaiz Malik, Hafiz Nauman, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Ata ul Haq Qasmi and senior journalists attended the function.
