Merit emblem of Punjab govt, claims Shahbaz


Farhat Abbas - SARGODHA - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has stated that the Punjab government has been striving hard to promote merit culture particularly in Punjab and generally across the country.
While addressing the participants of laptop distribution ceremony here at the University of Sargodha, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif claimed that he believed in merit and the appointment of UoS Vice Chancellor stood testimony to the government’s intent. He pointed out that there were many hurdlers in the way of the appointment of the UoS VC but the government followed the Search Committee’s report and he (VC) was at the top of the list accordingly. “Recruitment of teachers on merit leads the nation to be more prosperous and more successful in the world, said the CM. He expressed his views that had the teachers been recruited on merit in the country the curse of corruption and dishonesty would not have taken root. “We need to make Pakistan an ideal land for the common man which could only be achieved by following the teachings of Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the chief minister argued. The Punjab CM said that laptop scheme was not only a token of appreciation for eligible students, it would also provide them plentiful chances to interact with the whole world.
Earlier, in his welcome address, UoS Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Akram Chaudhry expressed said that the University of Sargodha always followed the policy of merit in all its disciplines either academic or administrative. He claimed that there were more than 17,800 students at the campus who were granted admissions on merit. The VC said that UoS was already running two constituent colleges, SMC and University Agriculture College. The university plans to establish an engineering college on its premises which will be another landmark to serve the nation with the financial assistance of the Punjab government,” he revealed.
The ceremony of laptops distribution at UOS was a big show of university students, their parents, teachers and people from all walks of life. Later, the police band presented guard of honour the winning students and the Punjab Chief Minister.
