LAHORE – Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL) outpaced Sports Writers Association of Punjab (SWAP) by 65 runs to reach the final of the Punjab Sports Festival cricket hardball event here at Faisal Town ground on Wednesday.
SJAL will take on Multan Press Club in the final who crushed Sahiwal Press Club by nine wickets in other semi-final. Abdul Rauf (70) and Imran Sohail (34) played brilliant knocks as SJAL piled up a good total of 135 runs in the allotted 10 overs. SWAP, in reply, could manage only 79 runs for the loss of five wickets. The main feature of the match was superb smashes by SWAP’s Shafiq Chohan at the dying moments of the match.
In the Bar Association matches, Gujranwala Bar beat Lahore Bar by 11 runs. Gujranwala scored 116 runs while Lahore could manage only 105.
In other matches, Bahawalpur Bar beat Rawalpindi Bar by two runs in a closely-contested match. In the special children cricket hardball matches, Sahiwal beat Lahore by 12 runs. Sahiwal again defeated Gujranwala by 20 runs while Rawalpindi beat Multan by 35 runs.
