LAHORE – PML leader Begum Safia Ishaq’s book ‘Majid Nizami, Journalist of the Age’ was launched on Thursday at Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan.
Pakistan Movement worker Col (r) Amjad Hussain presided over the sitting, jointly organised by Pakistan Movement Workers Trust (PMWT) and Armughan-i-Hijaz Foundation.
The participants lauded TheNation Editor-in-Chief Majid Nizami for his lifelong services in the field of journalism, saying: “Majid Nizami, a precious national asset, can be called a complete movement that played a pivotal role in building the nation without bowing to dictatorship.”
Begum Safia Ishaq, the author of the book said that she tried to compile services rendered by the great journalist. Majid Nizami, she said, wanted to see the country a true legacy of Islam. She paid tribute to Nizami who was a true lover of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad said that the book reflects realities about a history making man who worked for two nation theory. Nizami had deep affection for the Quaid and Iqbal and was truly depicted in this book.
Amjad Hussain said Majid Nizami was a true son of Allama Iqbal who voiced truth frequently. He said that his friend Hameed Nizami and his brother Majid Nizami fought for truth and raised voice for the downtrodden. “Nizami never bowed down in front of tyrants who tried to make the media calm by hook or by crook” he added. Col (r) Jamshed Ahmad Tareen said that Nizami was a blessing who worked for the building of nation and became symbol for those who were ignored in the society. Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors President Jamil Athar said that Hameed Nizami criticised the dictators and Majid Nizami continued the same without any fear or favour. The struggle made by the Nizamis ensured no aristocracy to rule over the country. We are proud that we live with Nizamis. He praised Safia Ishaq who penned down life long efforts made by the veteran journalist.
Pakistan Movement worker Begum Khalida Muniruddin Chughtai said that Majid Nizami was a true custodian of ideological boundaries of the country. Nizami taught the nation to be proud and to stand on its feet, she said.
Dr Ajmal Niazi said that life of Nizami was like an open book and we are proud to be its readers. Calling Nizami a Commander-in-Chief of the ideological boundaries, there was no other fighter like him, Niazi added.
Dr Samia Raheel Qazi, Arifa Subh Khan, Allama Ahmad Ali Kasuri, Syed Saeed Alam Zaidi and Mansoora College principal Rasheed Angvi also spoke on the occasion.
They lauded the role of noted journalist in the field of journalism. “Nizami could be called as journalist of the age, who fought for principals and never let the national flag down” they said.
Begum Surayya Khursheed, Prof Dr M A Sufi, Begum Mehnaz Rafi, teachers, students and people from other walks of life attended the ceremony.
