ISLAMABAD - National Database Registration Authority chairman Tariq Malik and Law Minister Farooq H Naek held separate meetings with Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim on Thursday.

Naek, while talking to the media after the meeting, said the issues pertaining to nomination papers for the general polls came under discussion in his talks with the chief election commissioner.

He said the government had reservations over the amendments made by the ECP to nomination papers that had been returned to it. He said the government had asked the ECP to provide it with the schedule for the next general elections.

The amendments the ECP made to the nomination papers before sending them to the Law Ministry for parliamentary legislation include the creation of new column seeking tax and wealth details of politicians in addition to the record of their utility bill payments.

NADRA chief Tariq Malik, in his meeting with the CEC, asked the latter for the immediate provision of Rs900 million which the ECP had to pay to the NARDA for printing of electoral rolls.

Malik made it clear to the chief election commissioner that the NADRA was not in position to print additional electoral rolls if previous arrears were not cleared. Ebrahim, a retired justice, assured the NADRA chairman that the arrears would be cleared at the earliest.
