KARACHI - Pierre Mayaudon, deputy head of delegation of European Union to Pakistan, and Hussnain Iftikhar, senior trade advisor of the EU delegation to Pakistan, visited the Karachi Fish Harbour on Thursday.
During his stay, he will visit two seafood companies M/s Akhlaq Enterprises and M/s AG Fisheries who have been re-listed by the EU. They will also inspect auction hall, modified boats. On their arrival, Director General, Marine Fisheries Department, Government of Pakistan will give them briefing. In this regard the KFHA has made arrangements.
A meeting of all stakeholders was also held in the Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA) and presided over by Abdul Ghani Jokhio, Managing Director, KFHA. He said that lifting of ban is a result of joint efforts off all stakeholders, particularly KFHA, Sindh Government and MFD who not only convince the all actors involved in fisheries sector’s to bring the catch upto safety standards in line with the global standards. Mr. Iftikhar Zaidi, President, Pakistan Fisheries Exporters Association, Representatives of MFD, FCS, STOFA, Bonafide fishermen, Moleholders, Boat Builders etc.
Managing Director added that all the stakeholders worked hard to develop a sense of safe food for all. Opening of seafood export to the EU certainly is a major breakthrough, which increase the export and stabilize the Pakistan’s economy. He further said that in his opinion clearance of EU is a trust over Pakistan’s seafood and it value for Pakistani people and the people around the world whom we export the seafood. Managing Director informed that the KFHA also working on the modern lines with professional approach and in the near future there will be significant development at Karachi Fish Harbour which lead to ISO certification. The reopening of fishery exports to the EU would give a boost to Pakistan’s fishery exports. We hope that soon some more companies will also be re-listed by EU. All the stakeholders assured that they will work collectively for the betterment of fisheries sector.

On his arrival Mr. Shaukat Hussain, Director General, marine Fisheries Department briefed him about the steps taken for the improvement of Karachi Fish Harbour by the Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA) and other stakeholders. The EU dignitaries visited the two seafood companies M/s. Akhlaq Enterprises and M/s. A. G. Fisheries who have been re-listed by EU followed by a meeting with Mr. Abdul Ghani Jokhio, Managing Director, KFHA. The Managing Director informed the EU delegation about the efforts made for the improvement of Karachi Fish Harbour. He further informed that further revamping of the Karachi Fish Harbour was under way with the financial assistance of Government of Sindh. Mr. Pierre Mayaudon, Deputy Head of Delegation of EU termed his visit very successful. During the visit he went to auction hall, two processing plants, modified boats. He appreciated the arrangements made by the KFHA for the betterment of Karachi Fish Harbour. He termed re-listing of two companies as a good development and hope that further seafood companies would also be re-listed if they comply with the EU standards.
