ISLAMABAD - Lahore Lions hammered Rawalpindi Rams by 73 runs in the Faysal Bank Cup One-Day Cup Tournament 2012-13 first round Group B match played here at Pindi Cricket Stadium Thursday.

Lions skipper Azhar Ali opted to bat first after winning the toss and Lions managed to put a decent total of 277-6. Usman Salahuddin made a polished 56, while Azhar contributed 41. Akhtar Ayub took 2 for 56.

Rams, needing 278 runs for victory, were bundled out for 204 in 43.2 overs. Last match centurion Awais Zia failed to open his account. Rams had lost three wickets with only 29 runs on the board. It was a gallant solo effort of Test discarded Umar Amin, who scored patient 65. He was ably helped by promising Umar Waheed (31) but none of the other Rams batsmen put up fight. Salman Ali Agha took 3 for 30, while Raza Ali chipped in with 2 for 34.

At Diamond Cricket ground, Peshawar Panthers beat Faisalabad Wolves by six wickets. Batting first, Wolves were all out for 276 in 49.4 overs. Zeeshan Asif was the top scorer with 67, Hassan Mahmood made 54, Ali Waqas 52 and Khurrum Shahzad 39. Imran Khan took 6 for 48.

Panthers achieved the target in 43 overs losing four wickets in the process. Nawaz Ahmed made a sparkling 167 in only 122 balls, hitting 22 boundaries and three sixes. Zohaib Khan remained unbeaten on 23. Imran Khalid took 3 for 59. At Mirpur Stadium, AJK, Karachi Zebras handed Islamabad Leopards their second consecutive defeat of the tournament with a 37 runs victory. Zebras made a massive 318-6. Khurram Manzoor made 114, smashing 14 fours and one six, Akbar-ur-Rehman 85 and Faisal Iqbal 66.

Needing 319 runs for victory, Leopards could only manage to score 281-7. Imad Wasim top scored with 72, Babar Azam 57, Fahad Iqbal 49 and Zohaib Ahmed 31, Azam Huaasin and Anwar Ali shared two wickets apiece conceding 46 and 62 runs, respectively.
